IT Certification Office (ITCO)

The National Information Technology Authority (NITA-U) was established by the Act of Parliament of Uganda and was operationalized in 2010. The authority is charged with an overall mandate to coordinate, promote and monitor the development of Information Technology (IT) in the context of social and economic development of Uganda.

Among the main functions of the authority, section 5(f) of the NITA-U Act 2009 mandates NITA-U to set, monitor, regulate and enforce standards for Information Technology hardware & software planning, acquisition, implementation, delivery, support, organization, sustenance, disposal, risk management, data protection, security and contingency planning.

To enhance the competitiveness of Ugandan IT Industry globally and to regulate the IT Products & Services, Training Institutions and Individual IT Service Providers being offered by the IT industry of Uganda, there is a need to outline the minimum acceptable standards. This requires standardization across the IT Industry in Uganda, across all the IT domains. To meet this objective NITA-U has partnered with Global players to set-up the NITA-U IT Certification Office at Kampala, Uganda.

NITA-U IT Certification Office under the guidance and overall control of NITA-U implements the IT Certification framework against which all Certification objects will be assessed and certified. NITA-U IT Certification Office will guide and assist Certification objects to come up to International Certification in a phased and well-defined manner.
